The Fringe Fest is on from August 12th to 28th and most of the venues are walking distance from my place. So much more convenient than driving to Edmonton and staying in a hostel.
Saw this show today. I was expecting a caberet of French songs and there was a little of that going on but it was also a stand up show as well.
Saw a documentary at Village East Cinema called "Life in a Day." It's a montage of videos of day to day life of people from all over the world.
I was really intrigued by the story of a Korean man who has been biking all over the world for more than nine years now. There were funny segments: a man faints while filming his wife's c-section, depressing segments: Love Fest in Germany where several people were trampled to death, a cow being stunned and then bled to death in a slaughter house, and of course tender segments.
I have no idea what I did that day - I think I might have been at the Calgary Folk Fest. If that is the case, it was a good day for me...
Here's the trailer for the movie - see it if you get a chance
Went to my second class at this Upper West Side studio. They offer an Anusara based practice here - lot's of attention to detail and strength building poses.
If you want to learn more about Anusara yoga check out this website:
The weather was decidedly uncooperative for a Sunday afternoon. I had planned to spend the day outside but thundershowers tend to make the outdoors less than pleasant.
I, along with every tourist in the city made my way down to MoMa to get my art appreciation on.
It was a little chaotic inside and I only took my time on the 5th floor.
Van Gogh!
Picasso!
There's a cafe on the second floor with Italian food. I had the soup and bruschetta special with a delicious chocolate chip cookie for dessert.
I've become a huge Mae West fan after seeing She Done Him Wrong at Film Forum. I loved that she was a strong, intelligent, and funny woman who was also sexy. It's refreshing to see someone who doesn't equate sexy with stupid ( I'm talking to you Kardashians.)
Mae West was also a writer and way ahead of her time.
I also saw a rather bizarre movie called The Bowery. I was shocked at the blatant racist comments that the characters tossed around so casually in this film.
Went on a kayak trip with Outdoor Bound. This is an outdoor adventure tour group based out of New York city. Their prices are really reasonable and you don't have to deal with the hassle of renting a car to get out of town.
We met our guide Jaclyn in front of the Apple Bank at 73rd and Broadway and we drove about an hour out of town.
We kayaked in the Hudson river around Bannerman Island and Bannerman Castle. Afterwards we had a BBQ on a sandbar and returned to our starting point.
All in all a really great day out and a good work out.
Saw "Anything Goes" at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre last night. Such a treat to see a great revival of a classic musical. Really high energy and fun. This show was first produced in 1934 and the era was faithfully re-created on the stage. Beautiful costumes, dated slang, and corny jokes. Have a listen to my favoritesong from this production:
